Abstract

1421752 Metallized polyester articles BP CHEMICALS INTERNATIONAL Ltd 26 March 1973 [7 April 1972] 16149/72 Heading B5A [Also in Division C3] Metallized polyester articles are produced by moulding from a thermosetting moulding compound based on an unsaturated polyester under heat and pressure, the compound containing an alkyl phosphate neutralized with an alkanolamine as mould release agent and then metallizing the moulded article. The alkyl phosphate may be an octyl phosphate, preferably a mixture of mono-, di- and tri-n-octyl phosphates. The alkanolamine is preferably ethanolamine. The moulding compound may be compression moulded in matched metal moulds at 120- 140‹ C. and at 250-1000 p.s.i. or injection moulded in the form of a dough moulding compound. The moulding produced may then be solvent washed, lacquered and vacuum metallized with electrically vaporized aluminium.
