Abstract

1421613 Motor vehicle fuel tanks RUBERY OWEN & CO Ltd 25 April 1974 [28 April 1973] 20327/73 Heading B8T [Also in Divisions A4 and B7] The filler tube 1 of a fuel tank and the delivery nozzle 13 of a petrol dispenser are provided with normally closed spring-loaded valves 2, 15 which are opened by insertion of the nozzle into the filler tube. The valve 2 includes a spigot 8 adapted to co-operate with valve 15 whereby both valves are opened in operation. In a second embodiment Fig. 2 (not shown), the filler valve consists of four spring-loaded, triangularshaped, plates co-operating in the closed position to form a pyramidal structure. The filler valve is opened by a probe projecting from the nozzle valve. When the nozzle is fully inserted in the filler tube, the probe strikes a stop plate in the filler tube to lift the nozzle valve from its seat.
