Abstract

1421592 Resistance heating element FRITZ EICHENAUER 5 March 1973 [11 March 1972] 10486/73 Heading H5H In a resistance heating element of the type in which the heating conductor 3 is wound about parallel spaced insulating supports 7, the conductor 3 comprises a resistance wire wound on a core of low thermal expansion coefficient material, e.g. twisted mineral fibre threads. The supports 7 may be notched or grooved mica strips as shown, or rods and they are joined together by parallel supporting strips 8 which may be insulated metal bars. The strips 8 are profiled for stiffening purposes and serve to mount the element in the apparatus, e.g. toaster, in which it is used. The conductor 3 may be wound helically about the supports 7 as shown, or may meander between the supports 7 on one face only thereof. In a toaster, the outer elements are backed by reflectors. The pitch of the conductor 3 may vary to ensure even heating in a toaster.
