Abstract
1421503 Moulding explosive charges DYNAMIT NOBEL AG 9 Aug 1973 [10 Aug 1972] 37886/73 Heading B5A [Also in Division F3] A method of producing an encased explosive charge comprises: compressing, with a ram 1, Fig. 1, a mass of explosive material 3 located in a mould 2, 4; transferring the coherent body 3<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2, so formed, into a casing 5 located in a matrix 2<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>1</SP>; and compressing the body 3<SP>1</SP> with a ram 1<SP>1</SP> at the opposite end of the body to that previously compressed. A liner 7 may be placed in a hollow of the body 3<SP>1</SP> before the second pressing operation. If the encased explosive charge is to include a head of explosive material 9, Fig. 4, and a barrier 10 of non-detonative transmissive material, the head can be preformed before insertion in a casing 5<SP>11</SP> or may be formed in the casing by pressing the barrier 10, centred by a pin 11, into a mass of the explosive material of the head; thereafter the coherent body 3<SP>1</SP>, produced in the first pressing operation, is introduced into the casing 511 and subjected to the second pressing operation. The barrier 10 is formed of concrete, metal, rubber, plastics or ceramic material. The explosive charge is hexogen phlegmatized with wax.
