Abstract

1421456 Apertured concrete walls; breakwaters; shuttering COMPAGNIE GENERALE POUR LES DEVELOPPEMENTS OPERATIONNELS DES RICHESSES SOUS-MARINES-C G DORIS and EUROPE-ETUDES 9 Feb 1973 [21 Feb 1972] 6400/73 Headings E1H, E1S and E1W An apertured wall, e.g. for use in protecting maritime constructions, is formed using a plurality of precast concrete members each comprising a tubular portion 1 having perpendicular peripheral end flanges 2, these memibers being arranged with their tubular portions parallel and their flanges juxtaposed edge-toedge with narrow gaps therebetween, and the spaces defined between opposed flanges and around tubular portions are then filled with concrete and the gaps between edges of flanges are packed with mortar or other jointing material, so that the flanges form the faces of the finished wall, i.e. the concrete members constitute permanent shuttering. During casting and setting of the concrete, the gaps between edges of flanges 2, which are maintained by shims 4, are sealed by elongate cover plates which are held in place by cross-bars 6, opposed sets of which are interconnected by tie-rods extending through the tubular portions 1. The inner faces of the flanges 2 are chamfered at their edges at 3, to form a channel between adjacent flanges into which the concrete penetrates.
