The depth of immersion is such that the teeth 13 are within the uniform temperature zone 2' of the bath 2 (the upper 50-60 mm of which has a non-uniform temperature due to cooling by fume removal) and the rivet holes 14 are not immersed. Control of depth of article immersion is by the pressure difference between the air trapped in the bell and the air pressure within the furnace.
