Abstract

1421239 Skin incisor MEDINOVA AB 17 Aug 1973 [21 Aug 1972] 39037/73 Heading A5R A device for making a skin incision comprises a base plate 1 with a bottom surface, having a cutting blade 11 rotatable about an axis substantially parallel to the bottom surface, the distance of the axis from the bottom surface being so arranged that the edge of the blade 11 describes an arc which extends below the base plate 1 and provides an incision of predetermined length and depth. The base plate 1 has an elongate aperture 2, and a support member 3 connected to the base plate. A shaft (not shown), mounted at the upper end of support member 3, is rotatable by means of an eccentric disc 4. In said shaft, eccentrically mounted is another shaft 5 rotatably supporting an arm 6 provided with finger grips 7 and 8 intended for the thumb and middle finger respectively of the operator, and restricting the rotation of the arm 6. The lower part of arm 6 has pins 9, 10, to which a knife is fastened. Resiliency for pin 10 is provided by removal of material from arm 6 as exemplified by slot 12. In use, rotation of the eccentric 4 adjusts the knife edge so that it is just sightable below aperture 2 when stop 7 is against member 3. The device is placed on the patient's skin and the arm 6 is rotated until stop 8 engages the base plate, thereby making the incision. An alternative embodiment, Figs. 2, 3 (not shown) comprises a base plate (13) connected to a support member (14). An arc-shaped member (15) is partly received in a groove (16) of the support member (14) and retained by a pin (17) the engaging arcshaped member (15) and extending through a slot (18) in the support member (14) to provide an enlargement (19). Member (15) supports the knife (20) fixed to member (15) by pins (21) extending through slot (22) formed in knife (20) into member (15), and having enlargements formed at their outer ends. When member (15) is displaced along groove (16) the knife (20) makes the incision as before.
