Abstract

1421131 Collapsible ladder H OLSEN 29 Jan 1973 [27 Jan 1972] 3907/72 Heading E1S A collapsible ladder comprises rungs 1 connected to two side members made up of pivotally connected sections 2, 3 whereby the ladder may be folded, and adjacent sections 2, 3 have apertures at their ends to receive pivots and are provided near their common pivot 4 with a projection on one section engaging a recess in the other section, whereby when the ladder is unfolded to its straight condition the projection abuts an edge of the recess to prevent further relative rotation of the adjacent sections 2, 3; pivotally mounted on the side members are spacers 8 which, when the ladder is hung vertically, fall into a horizontal position for abutting a wall on which the ladder is used, the spacers having stops to limit rotation. The ladder may have one end secured in a container 11 which will accommodate the collapsed ladder, the container being secured to a wall &c of a building whereby the ladder may be used as a fire escape. The recess is arcuate and extends around the associated pivot, and the projection slides therein. The spacers 8 are mounted on the pivots 4, and their stops abut the side members. The rungs 1 are hollow, and the ladder is of aluminium.
