1420983 Disposal of crematory remains A VIGH 14 May 1973 22903/73 Heading A5X A submersible urn for the under-water burial of cremated remains comprises a container 10 of a material degradable in an aqueous environment, an opening 36 in the top of the container for the introduction of the remains, a ballast member 16 at the base of the container, water-entry and air-egress openings 20, 46, respectively in the bottom and top of the container and plugs 34, 58 closing the openings until the urn is required to be submerged. The opening 36 is closed by a cover 38 fastened by screws 40 to the container-body. Each of the openings 20, 46 communicates with the interior of the urn through a star-shaped system of passages 22, 48 terminating in an annular gallery 24, 54 covered by a gauze screen 30, 56. The container is of aluminium, or bio-degradable plastic and the ballast-member is of ferrous metal which will gradually rust in marine conditions. The other parts are similarly degradable.
