Abstract

1420979 Fire-retardant compositions BICC Ltd 23 March 1973 [24 March 1972 6 March 1973] 8326/73 and 10767/73 Divided out of 1418027 Heading C3P A polymer, composition includes a constituent containing chlorine and comprises 100 parts of a polymer, a plasticizer, 5 to 250 parts of a filler of which at least 5 parts is magnesium carbonate and 3 to 25 parts of antimony sulphide as fire-retardant. The composition may contain further fire-retardants. In examples polyvinyl chloride is compounded with dialkyl phthalate plasticizer, chloroparaffin, stabilizer, magnesium carbonate and antimony sulphide. A comparative example using antimony trioxide is included. In a further example chlorosulphonated polyethylene, chloroparaffin, lubricant and a curing system including magnesium oxide is mixed with clay, magnesium carbonate and antimony sulphide. The compositions are used as insulation or sheathing for electric cables.
