Abstract

1420977 Fire retardant compositions BICC Ltd 23 March 1973 [24 March 1972 6 March 1973] 8324/73 and 10765/73 Divided out of 1418027 Heading C3P A fire-retardant composition includes a constituent containing chlorine and comprises 100 parts of a polymer, a plasticizer, 5 to 250 parts of a filler of which at least 5 parts is dawsonite (Na 2 O.Al 2 O 3 .2CO 2 .2H 2 O) and 3 to 25 parts of antimony trioxide or sulphide as fire-retardants. A further fire-retardant may be included if necessary. In examples polyvinyl chloride is compounded with dialkyl phthalate, chloroparaffin, stabilizer, dawsonite and antimony trioxide or sulphide. Another example comprises chlorosulphonated polyethylene, chloroparaffin, a lubricant, a curing system including magnesium oxide, clay, dawsonite and antimony trioxide or sulphide. The compositions are used as insulation or sheathing for electric cables.
