1420827 Burning refuse MESSERSCHMITTBOLKOW - BLOHM GmbH 19 March 1973 [6 April 1972] 13016/73 Heading F4B Refuse in a dump 1 is ignited below a covering layer of refuse or non-inflammable insulating material, and combustion gases are sucked downwardly to exhaust ducts 6 connected through a manifold 7 to a fan. Air supply devices 2 and burners B may be buried in the dump. Units U, Fig. 3, supplied with air and fuel through flexible pipes 23 and carrying temperature sensors and gas sampling probes 19, 20 are mounted on racks and pinions 21, 22 so that their depth may be adjusted. The gases withdrawn may be mixed with fuel, such as waste oil, and burnt, the hot exhaust being used to drive a turbine.
