Abstract
1420645 Tuning circuits INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 15 Feb 1973 [18 Feb 1972] 7433/73 Heading H3Q In a tuning circuit having a tuning potentiometer R2 whose wiper is arranged to feed a tuning voltage UD to a varactor diode, first trimmer potentiometer R3 is connected to one end of the tuning potentiometer and a second trimmer potentiometer R1 is connected to the other end of the tuning potentiometer and a resistor R4 is connected in parallel with the series arrangement of the tuning potentiometer R2 and at least one of the trimmer potentiometers. The resistance values are chosen so that with the circuit connected as a potential divider network the curve #f=F(f), Fig. 3, for alignment by means of one of the trimmer potentiometers R3 or R1 goes through zero at a point lying at the high frequency end or low frequency end or both ends of the circuits tuning range, where f is the angular or received fre quency and #f is the frequency change caused by the associated potentiometer R3 or R1. As shown R1 is used to provide adjustment at the low frequency end a of the tuning range. At the high frequency end of the tuning range the frequency adjustment #f provided by R1 is reduced and is zero at the end b of the tuning range. Adjustment at the high frequency end is provided by R3. A further potentiometer R5 may be connected in parallel with the tuning potentiometer R2 so as to enable agreement of the tuning with the scale or setting to midscale. The connections of R1 and R3 may be interchanged (Figs. 3d and 3e, not shown) so that R3 provides zero frequency change when adjusted at the low frequency end of the range. In a modified arrangement (Figs. 4a and 4b, not shown) both R1 and R3 provide zero frequency change at the high and low frequency ends of the tuning range respectively and may be used to adjust the frequency at the low and high frequency ends of the tuning range. The midscale correction provided by the potentiometer R5 may be provided by an inductance having a displaceable core.
