Abstract

1420599 Burners for chemical analysis PYE Ltd 26 Jan 1973 [2 Feb 1972] 4899/72 Heading F4T Chemical analysis apparatus, such as an atomic absorption spectrophotometer, has a burner comprising a burner plate 1 having a flame port 5 therethrough in the form of a slot which has a transverse sectional profile which tapers inwardly from the lower inlet surface of the plate and has edges at said lower edge which are arcuate about axes parallel to the slot length to minimize turbulence and sample deposition in the region of flame port 5. The arcuate edges have a radius of curvature r, Fig. 4, of 3 mm. or greater and the dimensions indicated in Fig. 4 fulfill the relationships x # 1À5 s and 5e # 4h. The plate may be made by casting or machining from a single piece, or by spacers 4, 4<SP>1</SP> separating parts 2, 2<SP>1</SP> joined by screws 3, 3<SP>1</SP>. The lower edges of the ends 8, 81 of spacers 4, 4<SP>1</SP> may be profiled so that the inlet of slot 5 also tapers inwardly as seen in longitudinal section.
