Abstract

1420479 Agglomerating and shaping active carbon COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 15 Feb 1974 [23 Feb 1973] 8898/73 Heading C1A A shaped mass of active carbon material is produced by binding together a mass of agglomerates of active carbon material with a binder comprising a thermosetting resin, forming the mass and resin into the required shape, and heating the thermosetting resin, e.g. for 2 hours at 200‹ C., to cause it to set. The agglomerates may comprise active carbon material set in a thermosetting resin. The ratio of active carbon material of the agglomerates to total binder in the shape may lie between the limits of 19 : 1 and 3 : 1 by weight. The agglomerates may be wetted with a wetting agent (water, binder, starch solution, liquid resin or hardening agent). Reinforcing means (fibres, mesh or rods or bars) may be incorporated within the shaped mass.
