1420473 Finishing fabrics BENZAQUEN SA INDUSTRIAL COMERCIAL INMOBILIARIA Y FINANCIERA 6 Feb 1973 [12 June 1972 8 Aug 1972 10 Aug 1972 11 Sept 1972] 5831/73 Heading D1S Surface modification of a fabric is effected by moving continuously a length of fabric comprising superficially dyed fibres under a regulated longitudinal tension, contacting the moving fabric with rotatable abrasion means to raise superficially fibres of the fabric, the abrasion means being arranged both to rotate and simultaneously to move transversely relative to the direction of movement of the fabric, the velocities of the contacting surfaces of the fabric and of the abrasion means being different and the contact area being small relative to the periphery of the abrasion means so as to produce a fabric having a change in tonality and a plush surface. Apparatus for effecting this surface modification comprises a suction hood 1, guide rollers 2, abrading cylinders 3 having abrasive grain surfaces and drivable by motors 4, and wheels 5 to regulate the pressure and speed of the cylinders 3. Fabric winders c, c' are positioned at each end of the apparatus and fabric guide rollers 6 are driven by a main motor m. The fabric is steamed by pipes 7, 8 which direct steam onto screens 9 which reflect it onto the fabric. The fabric may be passed through the apparatus first in one direction and then in the other as many times as desired. Each cylinder 3, Fig. 2, is oscillated transversely in addition to its rotation and is provided with an axle 10 having a rim of endless threads 11 coacting with a sprocket 12 eccentrically jointed at 13 to a connecting arm 14 pivoted at 15 to a fixed frame. The supply and product rollers at the winders c, c' each having an axle 17, Fig. 3, carrying ring-shaped pieces 21, 23 having friction zones 22. The piece 21 is fixed in position on the axle and the piece 23 is displaceable thereover. Between the pieces 21, 23, a sprocket 27 is located and is drivable from the motor m. The piece 23 is movable by a ring 25 connected to the piston of a pneumatic cylinder 32 connected to member 30.
