Abstract

1420468 Peroxides of acrylic polymers INTEROX 20 July 1973 [21 July 1972 14 June 1973] 34616/73 Heading C3P [Also in Division C5] Polymeric peroxides are obtained by oxidation of a poly(α-hydroxy acrylic or alkylacrylic acid) or salt thereof, or of a lactone thereof, or of a poly(α-chloro acrylic or alkylacrylic acid) or a salt thereof. Oxidation may be effected by hydrogen peroxide, which may be present as such or may be produced in situ from a previously hydrogenated and oxidized mixture of secondary and tertiary amyl tetrahydro anthraquinones. Reaction may be effected in aqueous medium or in a suspension in an organic non-solvent, e.g. benzene. In examples, the starting material is poly(α- chloroacrylic acid), the sodium salt thereof, a lactone derived by hydrolysis thereof, or poly- (α-hydroxyacrylic acid) or the sodium salt thereof. Use.-Oxidizing and bleaching agents, especially in detergent compositions.
