Abstract

1420242 Fixed-drum brakes; full-face disc brakes HAGGLUND & SONER AB 4 May 1973 [5 May 1972] 21210/73 Heading F2E [Also in Division F3] A rotatable weapon turret 10, Fig. 1, has an eccentrically mounted firing weapon 11, a member 19 to restrain the rotation of the turret 10 in relation to a base (not visible) carrying the turret 10, said rotation being due to the torque developed by the recoil or counter-recoil force or the weapon 11, and has an arm 13 and a lever 14 to transmit the recoil and counter-recoil forces of the weapon to the member 19. The latter forms a friction coupling with a friction surface 22 of the base and is supported by the lever 14. In its neutral position the weapon 11 is centred by a double-acting spring unit 12, springs 15, 16 located between the arm 13 and the lever 14, and springs 17, 18 which are positioned between the member 19 and portions 20, 21 of the turrent 10. Recoil of the weapon 11 moves the arm 13 and a part 13a of the latter forces the member 19 into engagement with the surface 22 of the base to effect braking. Similarly counter-recoil of the weapon moves the arm 13 and a part 13b thereof forces the member 19 into engagement with the surface 22 and braking is effected. In another embodiment a weapon turret 10, Fig. 2, is mounted on a base having a stationary toothed rim 25. A wheel 26 is carried by a normally-non-rotatable shaft 28 mounted in brackets 27 and is in mesh with the toothed rim 25. The wheel 26 can be locked to the shaft 28 by a friction coupling having an arm 29 which is connected to the weapon 11, via a resilient shock absorber 31 and a link 30, the latter being pivotally mounted on the turret 10. Thus movement of the arm 29 by the recoil or counter-recoil of the weapon causes the wheel 26 to be locked to the stationary shaft 28. This in turn causes the wheel 26 to lock to the toothed rim 25, so that relative movement between the turret and the base is restrained. The coupling may comprise the arm 29, Fig. 3, which is rotatably mounted between balls 46, in a raceway of a stationary member 45, and balls 47, in an axially-movable disc 40. When the lever 29 is moved angularly the balls 47 move up an inclined ramp, urge the disc 40 against the wheel 26 and lock it. This action takes place in opposition to the action of a spring 43. Cup springs 36 are provided and allow slight rotation of the shaft 28 so that the weapon can be traversed even when the wheel 26 is locked.
