Abstract

1420110 Measuring vehicle loads electrically CITY UNIVERSITY J A COUTTS J W HEAPHY and A D BRUNNING 28 Feb 1974 [5 March 1973] 10604/73 Heading G1N The load in a road vehicle is measured by strain gauge resistors bonded to the axles on either side of the centre where the load strains are equal, or alternatively the two load signals from each axle are made equal by different amplification. The total load signal is then said to be independent of the load distribution. The strain gauges are connected into bridge circuits with temperaturecompensating dummy gauges, and the bridge outputs combined to determine the total vehicle load, with a visible or audible alarm to indicate overloading.
