Abstract

142,005. Lane, H. M. Aug. 27, 1919. Drying-ovens.-Relates to a method of drying cores and consists in placing the cores in an oven, passing heated gases into the oven and around the cores, allowing the gases to escape freely at the bottom of the oven, and collecting the saturated gases in a chamber beneath the oven from which they are withdrawn by a stack. The cores are placed on racks or shelves in an oven 1, and the products of combustion from a firebox 21 are introduced into the oven by a flue 6 controlled by a damper 7. Additional air may be introduced beneath the firebox and into a connecting flue 25 by means of a fan 31. The floor of the oven is constructed of perforated plates 9, and a collecting chamber 10 is arranged beneath the floor. Thus the gases from the flues. after passing over the cores and becoming cooled and saturated with moisture, pass through the floor into the chamber 10 where they are exhausted through a flue 14 leading to the stack 32. In order to produce a draught, the stack 32, Fig. 7, is perforated over part of its length, and the perforated portion 37 is surrounded by an air chamber 34 connected with the fan 31, Fig. 5. A tapered pipe 38, Fig. 7, is placed within the stack and forms a nozzle. The air blast from the fan, passing through the perforations 37, is deflected upwards by the pipe 38 and produces a suction at the base of the stack.
