Abstract

1419649 Fastener driving tools OMARK INDUSTRIES Inc 29 May 1973 [2 June 1972] 25528/73 Heading B4C A cartridge-operated fastener driving tool comprises a barrel assembly 10 connected to a hand piece 12 as by a pivot pin 38 for movement from a firing position to a position in which a cartridge 68 can be inserted and removed from the cartridge chamber 66 provided in the barrel 42, a ram 58 slidable in the barrel with an airtight fit, and a slidable sleeve 70 which in the second position of the barrel assembly can be pulled rearwardly by a finger-piece 72 to cause a dog 88 on the sleeve to return the ram and create an air pressure in the barrel to aid ejection of the cartridge as shown in Fig. 4 when the sleeve effects mechanical dislodgement of the cartridge by means of a stop 76 on the sleeve engaging a dislodging member 80. The cartridge extruder 80 is provided with a cartridge-engaging flange 84 which moves rearwardly when the end 83 of the extractor is engaged by the stop 76 during the rearward movement of the sleeve 70. When dislodged, the cartridge 68 is blown clear of the tool by the air pressure. As the sleeve is returned, a hook 104 on the sleeve catches the extractor to return it. The cartridge chamber 66 may then be re-loaded and the barrel assembly pivoted back into alignment with the firing mechanism which consists of a firing pin 14 slidably mounted in a breech block 16, a sear 20 urged downwardly by a spring 22 to lock behind a shoulder 24 when the firing pin is loaded against the action of a spring 18 and a trigger bar 28 which pushes up to release the sear when the trigger 26 is pulled. A magnet 106 acts to hold the barrel assembly in the closed position.
