Abstract

1419634 3 - Methacryloxy - 2 - hydroxpropyl esters CIBA GEIGY AG 24 April 1973 [15 May 1972] 22761/72 Heading C2C [Also in Divisions B5 and C3] The 3-methacryloxy-2-hydroxypropyl esters of acetic acid, propionic acid, chloroacetic acid, lactic acid and benzoic acid are prepared by reacting the respective acids with glycidyl methacrylate in the presence of triethylamine and hydroquinone; a mixture of the 3-methacryloxy-2-hydroxypropyl esters of a mixture of C 9-11 tertiary aliphatic monocarboxylic acids is prepared by reacting the glycidyl esters of such acids with methacrylic acid in the presence of triethylamine and hydroquinone; n-butyl-3- methacryloxy-2-hydroxypropyl succinate is prepared by reacting n-butanol, succinic anhydride and N-benzyldimethylamine and then adding further amine, hydroquinone and glycidyl methacrylate.
