Abstract
141,961. Barton, J. H. June 13, 1919. Field-glasses.-Relates to the mounting in prism binoculars of Porro prism combinations of three right-angle prisms cemented together, as shown in Fig. 4. The prisms b<2> are mounted in a frame having a lower plate b, pillars or like c, c<1>, and an upper plate, b<1> secured to the pillars by screws d, d<1>; the plates b, b<1> are preferably heart-shaped, as shown in the plan, Fig. 2. The frame has an angular ridge or pins f on it engaging the bottom plate e of the body and, by means of screws f<1> the frames can be turned about these parts f as about a hinge, but the movement in one body is at right-angles to the movement in the other. Helical springs g keep the frames in position, and metal pieces h, h<1> retain the prisms in position on the frames. The bodies may be connected in the manner described in Specification 135,752. A cover-plate j prevents dust or dirt from entering.
