Abstract

1419442 Doctoring coated webs H BACHOFEN E MEIER and E MEIER {trading as BACHOFEN and MEIER MASCHINENFABRIK] 18 Jan 1973 [21 Jan 1972] 2747/73 Heading D1L A device for doctoring a layer 1' of coating material on a travelling web 1 comprises a main air nozzle 7, a secondary air nozzle 8 positioned immediately upstream of the main nozzle and a trough 3 disposed below the air doctors to collect the mist of coating material removed from the surface of the web, the secondary nozzle 8 being connected via conduit 9 to the pressure chamber 7' of the main nozzle and regulated via butterfly valve 10 to deliver air at a lower pressure than the nozzle 7 to pre-doctor the layer 1' and prevent build up of removed coating material on the surface of the main nozzle. As illustrated collecting trough 3 includes baffle plates 4, additional nozzles 14 and fan 6 for directing coating liquid towards collecting vessel 5, the mistladen air passing in the direction of arrow b to the fan.
