Abstract

1419293 Reactor with lining HOECHST AG 13 April 1973 [15 April 1972] 17913/73 Heading B1F and B1X The invention relates to a reactor and a method of manufacturing the reactor, the reactor being for the chlorolysis of an aliphatic cyclo aliphatic or aromatic compound of a chlorinated product thereof or a mixture of two or more of these compounds and comprising a pressure-bearing jacket made of hightemperature steel, the sulphur content of which is no more than 0.015% by weight and the carbon content of which is no more than 0.08% 'by weight, and an internal lining for the jacket free from welding seams and spots, having a nickel content of at least 99% 'by weight, the sulphur content of the lining being no more than 0.01% by weight and the carbon content no more than 0.02% by weight. The method of manufacturing the reactor comprises fitting the above jacket with the above internal lining, the contacting surfaces of the jacket and lining being made substantially free from carbon and sulphur containing impurities before assembly e.g. by cleaning with acetone, carbon tetrachlorate, trichloro-ethylene or demineralized water.
