Abstract

1419202 Substrates and fertilizers comprising polyurethane foams BAYER AG 14 Feb 1973 [17 Feb 1972] 7193/73 Heading C1B [Also in Division C3] Plants may be propagated in a substrate which comprises a hydrophilic polyurethane foam prepared from a reaction mixture which includes a Zwitterionic compound which contains at least one group reactive with isoeyanates (see Division C3). Plant protective agents, plant hormones and/or growth substances may be included in the reaction mixture. The foams may be used as seed depots for planting out, or as physical soil improvers or as depot fertilizers. Flakes of the foam may be used alone or in combination with humus substrates, particularly peat. The foams are said to have a very efficient pH buffering capacity.
