1419142 Glycidal derivatives UNIROYAL Inc 15 Feb 1973 [18 Feb 1972 (2)] 7493/73 Heading C2C Compounds of Formula III are prepared by heating and distilling under vacuum under anhydrous conditions and in contact with an organic base catalyst, a compound of Formula I where R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are the same or different and are hydrogen or C 1 to C 4 alkyl; Q has a valence of n + 1 and is selected from C 1 to C 4 alkyl, C 5 or C 6 cycloalkyl and phenyl; R<SP>3</SP> is hydrogen or C 1 to C 3 alkyl; X is hydrogen or halogen; and n is 1, 2 or 3. Exemplified is the preparation of glycidol from #-cyanoethylglycidyl ether.
