1418376 Indicating wear in chains INGENJORSFIRMA BJORKMAN and JOHANSSON 28 Nov 1973 [28 Nov 1972] 55288/73 Headings G1A and G1M A conveyer chain 1, Figs. 1, 2, is supported by rollers 6 running in guides 7, 8 supported by a clamp 9 carrying supports 12, 13 for transmitters and opposed receivers respectively of light beams. The transmitters 15, 16, Fig. 3, may be lightemissive diodes 17 in transmission pipes provided with apertures 18, and the receivers 19, 20, Fig. 4, may be provided with phototransistors 21. In Fig. 5, the position indicated by arrows B and C1 and the distance between transmitters 15, 16 and 28, 29 and the corresponding receivers 19, 20 and 36, 37 is equal to the distance between facing ends of links where no wear of the links is to be allowed without indication being given. The transmitters and receivers may however be re-positioned so that light is received at the same time by the receivers 19, 20 and 36, 37 when wear equal to the distance C1-C2 takes place. Other arrangements of transmitters and receivers are described and shown but the electronic equipment carried by the clamp 9 and shown in Fig. 9 comprises, connected to the receivers and transmitters, amplifiers and pulse formers (40 a -40 j ), and logic circuitry 41 for receiving and processing the pulses to produce an output if there is a worn out link and an output per passing link. The first output is treated by a monostable flip-flop, a driver and a shift-register, and the second output by an amplifier plus driver in such a way that after a given number of links have passed since the defective link an indication is produced which operates via an amplifier. The circuit also comprises a pulse former (variable length of pulse) and a driver, and a paint spray or other suitable arrangement 43 which after delay marks the defective link. A lamp or other signal indicates that such a marking has taken place.
