Abstract

1418071 Drying vegetable matter R P CUNDY 30 Nov 1973 [14 Feb 1973] 7123/73 Heading F4G A flooring slab for use in drying vegetable matter such as corn, hay or potatoes, has an upper planar face 1 in which are formed recesses 3 and a lower planar face 2 from which extend holes 4 of lesser cross section than the recesses to form ledges 5 therewith, the slab being made from precast concrete, moulded fibre reinforced plastics or cast molten metal. Each ledge 5 supports, in use, a foraminous cover 15. The slabs form a floor on which the vegetable matter is placed air being blown from a plenum chamber 14 through conduits 13, the upper sides 12 of which are formed by the slabs, and then through the foraminous covers 15 into the vegetable matter. The slabs may be reinforced by metal rods. The recesses 3 may be of square, rectangular or circular cross-section and covers 15 may be of expanded metal. Positions of communication of the conduits with the chamber 14 may be arranged to be closed by shutters.
