1418016 Feeding tobacco AMF Inc 20 Nov 1973 [7 Dec 1972] 56623/72 Heading A2C A tobacco feeding device comprises a passage formed from a series of sections decreasing consecutively in cross-sectional area, means for feeding tobacco to the large crosssectional end of the passage and means for withdrawing tobacco from the low cross-sectional end of the passage and means at each section for advancing the tobacco along the passage towards the low cross-sectional area end thereof, the means having projections which enter the tobacco during advance and which effect a drawing out of the tobacco in the direction of advance at each section. As shown, stations I to VI indicate the feed sections of progressively lower cross-sectional area. Each feeding unit assembly 11, 11' consists of one or more feeding units 12 each of which comprises a pair of parallel side plates 14 separated from each other by spacers 16 and a front plate 17 which faces the interior of the converging passage. Front plate 17 houses a pair of rockers 19, 20 mounted for oscillation about a common spindle 22 and having arcuate surfaces facing the passage. Rocker 19 has a pin 24 passing therethrough carried by arm 25, the other end of which is mounted on a crank pin 27 of a gear wheel 28. Rotation of the drive shaft 40 results in rotation of gear wheels 28, 34 carrying pin plunger arms 25, 31. As gear wheels 28, 34 rotate the pin plunger arms advance the pins successively and by reason of the pivoting rockers are caused to carry out a downward swing. The pairs of co-operating oscillating pins have the same frequency but differing amplitudes, so that pin 24 fixes to progress the tobacco while pin 30 draws it out.
