Abstract
1417671 Preparation of pigmented polyethylene terephthalate GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 3 Jan 1974 [29 Jan 1973] 00206/74 Heading C3R A method of preparing pigmented polyethylene terephthalate comprises (a) preparing a polyethylene terephthalate masterbatch containing 10-50 wt. per cent of pigment by adding ethylene glycol containing 15-25 wt. per cent of pigment to a mixture of dimethyl terephthalate and ethylene glycol or the transesterification reaction product thereof and then polycondensing to give the masterbatch, and (b) adding the masterbatch in an amount to provide from 0À01 to 3À0 wt. per cent of pigment to the polycondensation reaction of the direct esterification reaction product of terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol at a point where the pressure is being reduced and is in the range of from 100 to 0À1 mm Hg and the temperature is 245-285 C., and continuing the polycondensation until the desired intrinsic viscosity is reached. The specified pigment is titanium dioxide.
