Abstract

1417038 Washing machines SKF INDUSTRIAL TRADING & DEVELOPMENT CO BV 13 Feb 1973 [17 Feb 1972] 7077/73 Heading D1A [Also in Division F2] In a bearing supporting a washing, spinning, or drying drum 7 and comprising a radially inner annular race member 1, a radially outer annular race member 2 and two annular rows of balls 3 arranged to roll on both race members, the centres of corresponding balls in the respective rows are spaced not more than three ball diameters apart, and the race member 1 extends axially beyond each axial end of the race member 2. The drum 7 and a drive pulley 9 are stressed towards one another, stress being transmitted from one end to the other of the race member 1. The pulley and drum are connected by means of a tie rod 11. In the embodiment illustrated, a driving connection is obtained by providing the tie rod with squaresection portions which engage correspondingly shaped recesses in walls 8, 10. In further embodiments, axially directed projections or serrations are provided around the circumference of each end of the race mmber 1, and engage coresponding recesses or serrations provided in flanges of the pulley and drum. Alternatively, separate serrated washers may be used. In one embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown), the member 2 comprises two shaped sheet metal parts defining with an outer cylindrical member an annular chamber which is filled with plastics material. The outer race member may be mounted in a support by a bayonet connection (Fig. 6, not shown).
