Abstract

1416818 Forming sheet material STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 18 Jan 1973 2673/73 Heading B5A An apparatus for forming a woven plastics web into a required shape, e.g. a loud-speaker baffle, comprises a female mould 1 having channels 1b into which the web is to be deepdrawn, a male mould 4 having projections 4a to mate with channels 1b, and a peripheral clamp (3), Fig. 1a, not shown, to hold the web, and means for heating the web adjacent the projections, e.g. a hot fluid jet 6. The arrangement of the plane surfaces of the moulds ensures that the web is not gripped therebetween and a portion therein is not distorted. In an alternative arrangement hot fluid can be circulated through passages in the projections 4a.
