Abstract

1416769 Dewatering webs BELOIT CORP 17 April 1973 [30 May 1972] 18512/73 Heading F4G A press mechanism for removing liquid from a travelling fibrous web W comprises a press nip formed between a travelling flexible impervious belt 10 and another member, e.g. a roll 9, a sliding shoe 16, 17, 18 extending transversely of the direction of travel of the belt 10, means for pressing the shoe against the belt and means 19 for providing a film of lubricating fluid between the shoe and the belt. As shown, three shoes 16, 17, 18 are provided and the pressing means comprises an hydraulic piston- and-cylinder device 22, 23; 28, 29; 32, 31 for each shoe. The pressures exerted by the devices may be equal or different. The lubricating fluid is confined in the vicinity of the shoes by a housing 15. A felt F for receiving liquid pressed from the web W is interposed between the web W and the roll 9. The roll 9 may be a suction roll and the felt being adjacent the belt. Antideflection means may be provided for the roll. Two felts, one on each side of the web, may be used. The roll 9 and belt 10 may be driven by the same or different drives. A pair of belts may be used to form the pressings.
