Abstract

1416738 Azo dyestuffs containing a pyridine ring CIBA-GEIGY AG 14 Dec 1972 [28 Dec 1971] 57776/72 Heading C4P Novel dyestuffs of the formula wherein D is the radical of an aromatic or heterocyclic diazo component; two Z radicals are -NR<SP>1</SP>R<SP>11</SP> and one is -NR<SP>1</SP>R<SP>11</SP>, -OR<SP>111</SP> or -SR<SP>111</SP> in which R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>11</SP> and R<SP>111</SP> are each H, or optionally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl or -NR<SP>1</SP>R<SP>11</SP> is a saturated heterocyclic amino radical, each of -NR<SP>1</SP>R<SP>11</SP> being the same or different; and Y is -CN or -CONH 2 ; the dyestuffs being free from acid watersolubilizing groups other than carboxylic acid groups, and being other than the dyestuffs claimed in Specification 1,416,739 are prepared by coupling a diazotized amine DNH 2 with an appropriate amino-pyridine coupling component and, optionally, when Y is -CN, subsequently hydrolysing this to -CONH 2 in concentrated sulphuric acid. In one example coupling is effected in formic acid. The dyestuffs are suitable for dyeing and printing leather, wool, silk and synthetic fibres such as those based on polyesters, polyurethanes, polyamides, acrylonitrile based polymers olefin, and vinyl based polymers and cellulose acetates; and for the spin dyeing of polyesters, polyamides and polyolefins. Specification 1,416,740 describes and claims the preparation of the pyridine coupling components.
