Abstract
1416733 Tissue medium G A HEYDEN 20 Feb 1973 [21 Feb 1972] 7931/72 Heading A2D A transport or storing medium for tissue biopsies contains a bis-biguanide of formula: wherein each A is the same or different and is a phenyl radical optionally substituted by alkyl, alkoxy or nitro groups or by halogen; each R is the same or different and is hydrogen or an alkyl or aralkyl radical; each X is the same or different and is a direct linkage or an alkylene radical of not more than 3 carbon atoms; m is an integer of from 2 to 12 inclusive; and wherein the polymethylene chain (CH 2 ) m may be interrupted by oxygen atoms and/or by aromatic nuclei, or a salt thereof. The bis-biguanide is preferably chlorhexidine. The medium may additionally contain a buffering agent to maintain the pH at 7.0 to 7.8. A suitable buffer is a cacodylate buffer. An agent capable of maintaining hypertonicity with respect to the tissue e.g. polyvinyl pyrrolidone, polyvinyl alcohol or a glucose solution may be added to the medium. The medium and tissue are preferably stored together at 0‹C to 8‹C.
