Abstract

1416706 Crimping yarns ERNEST SCRAGG & SONS Ltd 20 July 1973 [25 July 1972] 34775/72 Headings DID and D1F In a twist-crimp method of texturing, an undrawn or partially drawn yarn is hot or cold drawn before (and at higher tension), during (i.e. on the twisting zone) or after it is false-twisted by passing it in contact with a plurality of overlapping friction rollers all rotating at the same speed in the same direction and interleaved in non-reversing sequence, the yarn being guided over each surface at an angle inclined to the direction of movement thereof so that the yarn is rotated with a simple rolling motion without slip. Yarn may be (further) heattreated and/or false-twisted in the opposite sense after the first false-twisting to modify the crimp extensibility and to produce non- torque yarn. The false-twister shown comprises parallel shafts 13 carrying rollers 11 with polyurethane tyres 12 interleaved in regular order and so spaced axially and rotated in the same direction at such speed that yarn passing axially through the roller assembly follows the sinuous path shown in dashed line around and between the curved edges of the rollers: the angle A is equal, at least at one point on the surface, to the twist angle for a desired twist level.
