Abstract

1416700 Skating rinks CALMAC MFG CORP 4 Dec 1972 [2 Dec 1971] 55963/72 Heading F4H The ice surface of a skating rink or skiing slope is formed and maintained by a portable system formed by multiple interconnected mats M, Fig. 1, of flexible plastics tubing T, Fig. 3, having an inside diameter of from # to # of an inch which are arranged in grids with the tubes closely adjacent one another and arranged with the flows of coolant in adjacent tubes being in opposite directions to provide a uniform temperature above the tubes. Each portable mat has a length many times greater than its width and has anti-freeze liquid as coolant, e.g. ethylene glycol, at a temperature below 10‹ F. pumped from a cooling station 30 through main supply and return headers 13, 23 to and from individual supply and return sub-headers 15 or 16, 21 or 25 extending across one end of the mat. The grid arrangement of the tubes is achieved by securing means S comprising tapes 70 extending transversely across the mat at spaced positions along its length or by means which hold the tubes in an X-shaped grid pattern.
