Abstract

1416480 Corona charging apparatus XEROX CORP 12 April 1973 [19 April 1972] 17680/73 Heading H1X A corona discharge device comprises at least one corona discharge electrode 20, a conductive shield 14 disposed in partially surrounding relationship with respect to said discharge electrode, a resilient wiper member 40 positioned within said shield and in wiping contact with both said shield and said electrode, and means for moving said wiper member 40 along said electrode and said shield so as to clean each. The shield 14 includes insulating end members 16 and 18 and a baffle 22 between the corona wires 20. The wiper member 40 formed of non- abrasive material, e.g. expanded polyester is clamped between two plates 52 fixed to rods 46 and 48 which slide in grooves 34 and 36 formed in side members 26 and 28 of the shield 14 and are fixed to a handle for moving the wiper member which has slits to receive the corona wires 20 and the baffle 22. Supports 30 and 32 engage arms 60 of a copying machine. A second handle 23 facilitates removal of the device from the machine.
