Abstract

1416262 Transistor delay circuits AIDEN KK 26 Jan 1973 [27 Jan 1972 1 Feb 1972 18 April 1972 20 April 1972 12 May 1972 16 May 1972 23 Aug 1972] 4123/73 Heading H3T [Also in Division G1] A tap is caused to open and close automatically under the control, particularly, of a photoelectric device, a timing apparatus being provided to close the tap when it has been open for a predetermined time. Photo-electric apparatus.-Light source (21) produces a beam (22) projected across an area into which the hand may be passed to present the beam from reaching photo-diode (17) (after reflection at mirror 19). Infra-red transmitting filters (9) are provided. Alternatively source and detector are on either side of the gap. Circuit.-The detector 27 may be connected in a control circuit shown in Figs. 4, 5. Interruption of the beam causes the detector impedance to rise and switch the trigger circuit 36. After shaping by Schmitt trigger 35, the pulse is used to switch bi-stable 33, which is normally in a state so as to maintain relay RY in circuit 28 de-energized and thus the tap closed. On switching, bi-stable 33 applies a pulse to the trigger of the thyristor SCR in 28 to energize the relay of magnetic value MGV (29) to open the tap. When the head is removed, to cause illumination of the detector once more, the bi-stable stays in its switched state, to maintain water flow. However, timing circuit 32 has been triggered and after the time set by resistor R4 and capacitor C3, transistor PUT is turned on to provide an input at 37 to trigger circuit 36 and switch bi-stable 33 back to its original state and close the tap. Closing of the tap before the end of the predetermined time is accomplished by interrupting the beam again. In an alternative circuit, a latching relay replaces the bi-stable circuit, Fig. 6 (not shown). Other types of electromagnetic radiation may be used, e.g. X-rays and use of ultrasonic waves is also suggested.
