Abstract

1416177 Code marked article reader EUROPEAN LABELLING MACHINE SYSTEMS Ltd 27 Sept 1973 [8 Nov 1972] 51467/72 Heading G4M Articles such as pharmaceutical containers 10 carrying a label or having their own coded marking are carried on a conveyer 11 towards a turntable 17. A bar code marking of different colours may be used and the label may have alpha numeric printing. The container is received in a recess, operates a switch 25 and is moved to a position where the container is pressed by a roller 21 on an arm 20 against rollers 19 in the recess. The arm 20 carries an optical scanner and the bottle is rotated so that the code is read. If a correct code is read a gate 24 is retracted and the articles are carried away by the container. If an incorrect or invalid code is read the gate causes the articles to be ejected at position 4. The label may be marked to indicate it has been checked.
