Abstract
1415805 Mixing and fading circuits SONY CORP 23 Oct 1973 [24 Oct 1972] 49244/73 Heading H4J [Also in Division H1] A mixing circuit includes a variable resistor comprising a resistance element la which is engaged by a slide contact 6 and has end terminals 11, 12 to which respective input signals are applied, a switch means being provided so that when the contact 6 engages one of the terminals the other terminal is either earthed or open-circuited. Thus one input to a mixing circuit can be suppressed. In a first embodiment, Fig. 3, 4, signals from a microphone amplifier 2 and an equalizer amplifier 3 are fed to a mixing circuit, of which the output 4 is connected to contact 6 mounted on a rotatable shaft 7. An acrcuate resistance element 1a is provided on a substrate 8 and the switch means comprises two arcuate conductive paths 15, 16 on substrates 9, 10, earthed terminal members 18, 19 being provided adjacent to, but insulated from, one end of each path. The other ends 17, 20 of paths 15, 16 are respectively connected to resistance terminals 11, 12. Engaging paths 15, 16 are contacts 23, 24 ganged on shaft 7 with contact 6, so that when contact 6 engages terminal 11, contact 24 bridges the gap between terminal 19 and path 16, to earth terminal 12. Similarly when contact 6 engages terminal 12, terminal 11 is earthed. Two resistance elements (1L, 1R) may be used in a two - channel stereophonic reproduction apparatus (Fig. 5, not shown). In a modification (Fig. 6, not shown) the two input signals are fed to the contacts 23, 24 which at respective opposite limits of their rotation are disconnected from paths 15, 16. In a second embodiment, Fig. 8B, the switch means comprises a cam 31 mounted on the shaft 7. When contact 6 engages terminal 12 the cam earths terminal 11 by connecting a movable contact 32a to a fixed contact 32b (Fig. 8A, not shown). Similarly when contact 6 engages terminal 11, the cam earths terminal 12 (Fig. 8C, not shown).
