Abstract

1,120,526. Writing telegraphs. MARCONI, CO. Ltd. July 6, 1967 [Sept. 7, 1966], No. 40057/66. Heading G1N. Two mutually insulated resistive layers R1, R2, Fig. 3, have respective alternating voltages of frequencies f 1 and f 2 applied in perpendicular directions, and the co-ordinates of position of a probe P, Fig. 1 (not shown) capacitatively coupled to the layers, are determined by filters 7, 8, tuned to the respective frequencies and connected between the probe and output terminals 9, 10. An insulating base A carries the first layer R1 and an insulating coating L1 separates the two layers. A hard insulating layer L2 is contacted by the probe. The alternating voltages are connected via rejection filters 5, 6 to the layers R1, R2, connection being made by means of a pair of parallel conductive strips X1 X2 on one layer and a pair of parallel strips (Y1, Y2) perpendicular thereto on the other. Unbalanced drive (as shown) with one strip of each pair earthed may be used, or balanced push-pull drive. The terminals 9, 10 may be connected to an apparatus to be controlled, or to a cathode ray tube.
