Abstract

1415774 Spray condensers KURARAY CO Ltd 29 March 1973 [24 April 1972] 15256/73 Heading B1B [Also in Division C3] In a process for preparing linear polyesters or copolyesters by polycondensation in a reactor 1 under reduced pressure, the reduced pressure is maintained by a first ejector pump 2 connected between the reactor and a first condenser 3, the latter being connected to a second ejector pump 4 which is in turn connected to a second condenser which is a multi-jet condenser 10, the operating fluid in the two ejector pumps and the two condensers being a polyol. Preferably the operating fluid is the same polyol as is used in the polyester preparation e.g. in the case of polyethylene glycol terephthalate, ethylene glycol. An example describes the polymerisation of bis-#- hydroxethyl terephthalate.
