1415492 Organolin compounds ALBRIGHT & WILSON Ltd 16 Nov 1972 [19 Nov 1971] 53892/71 Heading C2J [Also in Division C3] The invention comprises compounds of the general formula where R and R 1 are C 1 -C 12 alkyl, cycloalkyl or phenyl groups, X is where Q is -(CH 2 ) n S- or nothing, Q<SP>1</SP> is S if Q is nothing or is nothing if Q is -(CH 2 ) n S-, R<SP>1</SP> is H, C 1 -C 20 alkyl or cycloalkyl or is aryl or substituted aryl, R<SP>11</SP> is C 1 -C 21 alkyl, cycloalkyl, substituted cycloalkyl, aryl, substituted aryl or -CH 2 COOR 2 where R 2 is C 1 -C 8 alkyl, R<SP>111</SP> is R 3 or is -(CH 2 ) n COOR 3 where R 3 is C 1 -C 20 alkyl or is a cycloalkyl, cyclic ether or aryl group and n is an interger from 1 to 4, or X is where R 5 and R 6 are as for R and R 1 and R 7 is as for R<SP>1</SP>, and Y is either as for X or is or is if X is (I) where R 4 is C 1 -C 20 alkyl or is a cycloalkyl, aryl or tetrahydrofurfuryl group. The compounds are prepared by reacting (R)(R 1 )SnO with (A) either (1) a mixture of (a) an aldehyde or ketone (R<SP>1</SP>)(R<SP>11</SP>)CO if Q<SP>1</SP> is nothing or H.CO.COOH if Q<SP>1</SP> is -S- and (b) a mixture of R<SP>111</SP>SH and HOOC.QH if Q is -(CH 2 ) n S- or a mixture of R<SP>111</SP>SH and R<SP>11</SP>Q<SP>1</SP>H is Q<SP>1</SP> is -S-, or (2) the preformed reaction product of such a mixture, and (B) optionally one of and usually in the presence of an acid catalyst and a solvent. A number of the compounds are specified. They are used as stabilizers for halogen-containing resins.
