Abstract
1436832 Cyclopenta[b]furan derivatives UPJOHN CO 19 July 1974 [20 July 1973] 32011/74 Addition to 1396207 Heading C2C The invention comprises optically active cyclopenta[b]furan derivatives of the Formula I or racemates thereof, wherein C n H 2n is C 1-9 alkylene, with 1 to 6 carbon atoms in the chain between -CFR 2 and terminal methyl; R 2 is H, F, CH 3 or CH 2 CH 3 ; M is and R 6 is H, in which case one of R 7 and R 9 is H and the other is C 1-4 alkyl, or R 6 is Z (where Z is 2 - tetrahydrofuranyl, 2 - tetrahydropyranyl or wherein R 11 is C 1-18 alkyl, C 3-10 cycloalkyl, C 7-12 aralkyl or phenyl optionally substituted by 1, 2 or 3 C 1-4 alkyl groups, R 12 and R 13 are H, C 1-4 alkyl or phenyl optionally substituted by 1, 2 or 3 C 1-4 alkyl groups, or, when R 12 and R 13 are taken together -(CH 2 ) a or (CH 2 )b-O-(CH 2 ) c , where a is 3, 4 or 5, b is 1, 2 or 3 and c is 1, 2 or 3 with the proviso that b+c is 2, 3 or 4, and R 14 is H or phenyl) in which case R 7 is H and R 9 is C 1-4 alkyl or Z, or R 7 is C 1-4 alkyl and R 9 is Z; with the proviso that when R 6 and R 9 are both Z and R 7 is H, Z is not 2-tetrahydropyranyl; and compounds of the above Formula I in which R 6 is acetyl or optionally substituted benzoyl or naphthoyl, and R 7 is H and R 9 is C 1-4 alkyl or R 7 is C 1-4 alkyl and R 9 is H, and their preparation. The compounds are obtained by standard methods from ketones of the Formula XXIX where R 3 is acetyl or optionally substituted benzoyl or naphthoyl.
