Abstract

1415386 Gelatine compositions EASTMAN KODAK CO 22 Feb 1973 [29 Feb 1972] 8738/73 Heading C3H [Also in Division G2] Photographic coating compositions, especially gelatine coating compositions, which may be coated over layers containing anionic surfactants without producing coating defects, contain a solvent, a cationic surfactant of the formula where Y is a perfluorinated straight chain hydrocarbon radical of 6-10 C, each of R 1 , R 2 and R 3 is H or alkyl of 1-4 C, n is an integer from 1-9 and X- is an anion, and a nonionic surfactant of the formula where R 4 is alkyl of 6-12 C and Q is a polyhydroxypropylene oxide) group having 3-15 hydroxypropylene oxide units, the weight ratio of the cationic to the non-ionic surfactant being from 2 : 1 to 1 : 75. The composition may also contain a binder, e.g. gelatine, and dyes, lubricants, pigments and dispersing agents. A radiation-sensitive material may further be coated with a layer of the above composition as an antistatic layer. In an example, a coating composition containing gelatine, N-(3-perfluorooctylsulphonamidopropyl) - N,N,N - trimethyl ammonium iodide and p-nonylphenoxy decaglycidol is coated over a photographic dye layer containing sodium triisopropyl naphthalene sulphonate.
