Abstract
1415143 Wrapping an article of parallelepipedonal shape MASCHINENFABRIK ALFRED SCHMERMUND 24 Jan 1974 [17 Feb 1973] 63328/74 Heading B8C A method of wrapping an article of parallelepipedonal shape in a rectangular sheet of wrapping material 12 having a first dimension 16 at least equal to twice the sum of the width and thickness of the article and a second dimension 14 substantially equal to the length of the article plus twice its thickness comprises the steps of folding the wrapper sheet around the article to encompass four sides of the article by folding the wrapper sheet only along lines each extending substantially parallel to the second dimension so as to provide two sets of lobes, one projecting from each end face of the article. In at least one of the sets of lobes making two mutually-spaced first incisions 18, 18<SP>1</SP> each to extend substantially perpendicularly of, and inwardly from, the outer edge of one 35 of the lobes. Making two mutually spaced incisions 20 through the lobe 33 opposite the one lobe 35, the second incisions each extending substantially perpendicularly of, and inwardly from, the outer edge of said opposite lobe 35 along a respective one of the longitudinal folds 30, 31 defining the lateral extremities of said opposite lobe to a corner of the face of the article. Folding each of the two lobes 34, 36 on respectively adjacent sides of the one lobe against the end face of the article such that each corner portion of the one lobe 35 outwardly of the incisions 18, 18<SP>1</SP> is folded over against the remaining portion of the lobe, Fig. 4, with an edge 28 of each folded-over corner portion so extending from the inner extremity of a respective one of the mutually spaced first incisions 18, 18<SP>1</SP> to the corner of the end face next adjacent said extremity that-on the one lobe 35 being folded to overlie the end face-said one edge substantially bisects the angle included between the sides of the article next adjacent that corner, and folding the one lobe 35, Fig. 5, and the lobe 33 opposite the one lobe to overlie the end face of the article. As shown, a bundle of eight packages P of length a, width b, and height c is wrapped in a blank comprising panels 22-26, fold lines 29, 27, 30, 31, and having a length a + 2c and a width 2b + 2c up to 3c, the blank being folded starting at panel 22 and finishing by overlying the latter with the panel 26 to form two sets of side lobes, one being shown in Fig. 2. Each lobe set comprises lobes 32-36 the two incisions 18, 18<SP>1</SP> being formed in the lobe 35 to extend inwardly by an amount such that a line from the inner end of an incision to the corresponding inner corner of the lobe subtends an acute angle of substantially 45 degrees to the fold line 41. A second set of incisions 20 extend up to the fold line 41 between the lobes 32, 33, 34. The panel 34 is first folded in, Fig. 2, and then the panel 36 to also fold in the panel 32 beneath it, Fig. 4. Thereafter the panel 35 is folded up and glued to the panels 34, 36, Fig. 5, whereupon the panel 33 is folded down and glued on to the panel 33, Fig. 6.
