1415102 Cyanoacrylate adhesives N N TROFIMOV V S ETLIS and D A ARONOVICH 7 Nov 1973 51571/73 Heading C3P Adhesive compositions comprise (1) a cyanoacrylate and (2) 2 to 20 per cent by weight of the cyanoaorylate of a bis-2-cyano-penta-2,4-dienoate of a glycol of formula HOROH where R is -(CH 2 ) n - where n is 1-4, -CHR<SP>1</SP>CH 2 - where R<SP>1</SP> is alkyl, -CH 2 CR<SP>11</SP>R<SP>111</SP>CH 2 - where R<SP>11</SP> and R<SP>111</SP> are alkyl, or where m is 0-2. The compositions may also contain polymerization inhibitors, e.g. sulphur dioxide and hydroquinone, stabilizers, thickeners, e.g. polymethyl methacrylate, polycyanoacrylates and polyvinylacetate, and plasticisers, e.g. dibutyl sebacate, dibutyl phthalate and triphenyl phosphate. Examples describe compositions comprising ethyl cyanoacrylate and (1) ethylene glycol bis 2-cyanopenta-2,4- dienoate, (2 and 8) diethylene glycol bis 2- cyanopenta-2,4-dienoate, (3) trimethylene glycol bis 2-cyanopenta-2,4-dienoate, (4) propylene- 1,2-glycol bis 2-cyanopenta-2,4-dienoate, (5) 2,2-dimethyl propylene glycol-1,3 bis 2- cyanopenta-2,4-dienoate and (6) triethylene glycol bis 2-cyanopenta-2,4-dienoate; butyl cyanoacrylate and (7) ethylene glycol bis 2- cyanopenta - 2,4 - dienoate; and ethoxyethyl cyanoacrylate and (9) ethylene glycol bis 2- cyanopenta-2,4-dienoate; and the use thereof for bonding steel and brass.
