Abstract
1414949 Bearings I LAING 5 Feb 1974 05288/74 Heading F2A [Also in Division H2] A rotary magnetic machine, e.g. a magnetic coupling, Fig. 2, or an electric motor, comprises a bearing bush 4 disposed between its magnetically co-operating element, 3, 10, the bush being made partly of magnetically permeable material. The bearing bush 4 may support the rotor on its own or, alternatively, the rotor may be carried by the bush 4 and by ballbearings. The bush may comprise ferromagnetic sheets 1 disposed in a non-magnetic matrix 8 which may be a synthetic resin, glass, vitreous enamel or a ceramic material. The elements 1 and 8 are recessed to receive reinforcing rods 2, e.g. of glass fibre, carbon fibre, brass or stainless steel. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the sheets 1 are replaced by radially orientated wire cuttings (6). In a further modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), radially orientated ferromagnetic fibres (11) are employed. The bearing bush 4 may serve as a fluid-proof barrier where the machine is of the canned type.
